With the continuous development of social technology, more and more people are adhering to the attitude of striving for excellence in products. With the emergence of a series of precision instruments, precision instruments also rely on small components – precision instrument screws, and some precision instrument screws are as small as 0.1mm. Although screws may be small, they also play an important role. So what are the production processes for precision instrument small screws? The editor will introduce two methods of thread processing to you:
The main processing methods for threads include thread cutting and thread rolling
Thread cutting: Generally refers to the method of machining threads on workpieces using forming tools or grinding tools, mainly including turning, milling, tapping, threading, grinding, grinding, and whirlwind cutting. When turning, milling, and grinding threads, the turning chain of the machine tool, such as the lathe tool, milling cutter, or sand wheel, accurately and evenly moves one lead along the axial direction of the workpiece for each revolution of the workpiece. During tapping or threading, the tool rotates and moves relative to the workpiece, and is guided by the formed thread groove to move the tool axially.
Thread rolling: The processing method of using forming rolling molds to produce plastic deformation of the workpiece to obtain threads, also known as cold heading in the industry. This production method generally uses machines such as single die machines, multi station machines, and clamping machines. The screws produced using this method have fast production speed and low cost. However, compared to the cutting process, the head and tail of the screws produced by this process are naturally formed, with a relatively round appearance, not as sharp as the cutting process, and have a beautiful appearance.
Each method has its own characteristics. Although the cutting process is not as fast as cold heading, it has higher accuracy compared to the cold heading process. The cold heading process produces more and faster in quantity and speed, and the cost is also low. When producing small screws for precision instruments, using the cold heading process can actually improve the cost-effectiveness of the turning process.
